This years event had 3,648 registered runners which resulted in $4,481 being donated to this year’s race charity, Harvest of Books. We had an impressive turnout of participants who braved the wet conditions, ran a great race, and made lots of memories!!
The KFRX Mayor’s Run sponsored by Sandhills Publishing takes pride in getting children throughout the community involved in the lifelong sport of running.  We also make a concerted effort to award children for their participation.  This year’s race was able to award over 350 prizes, chosen randomly.  Prizes included 36 bicycles (with helmets and locks), 30 pairs of running shoes, gift certificates to local businesses, and much more.  Every participant was also awarded a light-up bracelet provided by Sandhills Publishing.
Each year children are encouraged to submit designs to the Mayor’s Run Art Contest.  The winning design is then featured on the race shirt for that year and the designer is awarded a bicycle (with helmet and lock).  This years winning design was a team effort by Corinne Taylor, Elizabeth Benda, and Autumn Geier from Beattie Elementary, and they chose to donate their prize back to the race.  The runner-ups for the 2016 Art Contest were Harlee Jean Gasseling (Pyrtle), Selene Fischer (Pershing), Evyn Schafer (Lincoln Christian), and Brielle Braunsroth (Homeschool).
We would like to thank all of the volunteers who put in countless hours planning, preparing for, and helping us put on great races focusing on the community.
