News, Events, & Announcements

  • Did you know that Lincoln has more than one marathon? It's a trail run in Wilderness Park and is scheduled for Saturday, March 17th starting at 9 am. The race is known as the Wilderness Park Trail Run for the Bridges and is put on by the Friends of Wildness Park as a fundraiser to help replace the bridges in Wilderness Park. There are three distances to choose from: Marathon, Half-Marathon, and 6 mile. Walkers are welcome! Please note: Participants are expected to be self-supporting for the most part, there will be water stations though.v

The courses will be accurately measured and the timing will be provided by the Lincoln Track Club using MyLaps BibTag technology. (Note: This is the same technology used by the Boston Marathon last year).

The goal of this event is to raise funds for Wilderness Park, each participant will receive a string bag instead of a t-shirt. Thanks to the sponsors, the only expenses will be race insurance and the bags. All the rest of the entry fee money will be donated. The entry fees are: Marathon: $45; Half-Marathon: $35; and 6-mile: $20. Online Registration is available (note: online registrants will be charged a small service charge).

If you have questions or would like to volunteer please call 402-423- 1260 or email rapaolini@gmail.com.

  • 9 Year Old Dawson Coon of Geneva, NE was featured on the cover of the December 2011 Runner's World magazine.

Dawson is the youngest person to ever appear on the cover and have a feature written about him. Not only is Dawson a long distance runner, but he nearly died when he was 2 1/2 due to meningitis and a case of Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM). Please read his story (told by his father Dirk Coon) in the December 2011 issue of Runner's World or online here.

This video features Dawson from his photo shoot in San Francisco for Runner's World Magazine:
