State Farm Run Recap

The 20th Annual State Farm Run was held Saturday, March 24. Like many State Farm Runs, there was no sunshine, but luckily the rain held off. I am always amazed how many runners and volunteers still come out to run and help out with the coldest race of the year. The first Kids’ Grand Prix race of the 2018 season kicked off with the 1-mile at 8:30. The winner in the boys division was 11-year-old Easton Zastrow of Lincoln with a time of 6:30. Not too far behind him was our first girl, 12-year-old Shianne Benker from Greenwood crossing the finish line in 6:45.The 10-mile race with over 330 runners took off at 9:00 on the State Farm campus and headed east on the beautiful MoPac Trail. Crossing the finish line first was 27-year-old Brett Rosauer of Iowa City with a time of 53:26. Nicole McIntire, 33, of Waverly finished in 1:06:23. The 5K started at 9:10 with over 300 runners. Cole Marolf, a 28-year-old from Omaha was the winner with a time of 16:15. The first female was 13-year-old Berlyn Schultz of Lincoln with a time of 19:10.This was the final State Farm Run. I have been involved in this race since the first one was run in 1999. We didn’t have a clue what we were doing back then, and we had bumps along the way, but this race grew to be a favorite for many runners who would come back year after year. I would like to thank all the volunteers that have helped over the past 20 years. Anyone who has been a race director knows that without volunteers these events would not be possible. I hear from so many of my volunteers how many runners thanked them along the way for what they are doing. That’s what keeps our volunteers coming back too.Complete results for the Kids’ Grand Prix, 5K, and 10 mile.Article by Shelly Adcox. Photos by Tracy Murray.
