2020 Buffalo Run

The Lincoln Track Club, in coordination with the Lincoln Running Company, is proud to present the 44th annual Buffalo Run, set for Sunday, Sept. 20, at Lincoln’s beautiful Pioneers Park. This will be Buffalo Run: Global Pandemic Style. It will be an in-person race (no virtual component here!), but there are a few slight changes required by the local health department and designed to protect the safety of all runners as much as possible. Don’t worry! The challenge of the hills will still be in play. THAT hasn’t changed a bit. Here are the details:WHEN: Sunday, Sept. 20, 8 a.m., but there will likely be four starting waves, 15 minutes apart, in groups based on your submitted per mile pace. This is to spread people out on the course for required social distancing purposes, but yet still give you challengers to race against. You will get an email with your wave time closer to the event, and we ask that you come to the park no more than 30 minutes ahead of your start time. Please enter the park via Van Dorn Street.RACE DETAILS: The course has been altered to help avoid as much runner two-way, cross traffic as possible (again, social distancing). That means this year it will be a four-mile race, as opposed to the five-mile traditional course. We know. It makes us sad, too, that we have to break tradition. Don’t blame us. It’s Covid’s fault. A map of the new course will be posted soon on the Lincoln Track Club website. Because of this change, we will suspend the five-year veterans award competition for this year. There will still be age-group awards. Results won’t be posted on-site to discourage grouping; those will be available online as soon as possible after the race, and awards will be mailed.OTHER IMPORTANT THINGS: Masks will be mandatory immediately before and after your race. Water will not be available on the course, so please plan accordingly for your hydration needs while racing. There will be bottled water and individually wrapped Cookie Co. cookies available after the race, so, that’s a pretty good trade off.PACKET PICKUP: Packet pickup will be at Tower Square at the corner of 13th and P Street on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. You will have the option to select a packet pickup time when you register. If you have already registered and don’t have a packet pickup time, email lincolnrunning@windstream.net for a time. There will be race day packet pickup at Pioneers Park, beginning at 7 a.m., but this is reserved for our out-of-town competitors. The Buffalo Run is the oldest continuous race hosted in Lincoln, so while it might look a little different this year, the Lincoln Track Club and Lincoln Running Co. are excited to offer this live racing option. We hope to see you all on Sept. 20 at Pioneers Park.
